Thecuy.com – The Indonesian boxing squad encountered a significant obstacle after failing to claim any medals at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi‑Nagoya, Japan. The Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Perbati) is now concentrating on an evaluation aimed at boosting performance for the forthcoming Olympics.

Five boxers representing Indonesia at the Asian Games were knocked out before reaching the semi‑finals, with the best result being a quarter‑final appearance only. The athletes are Nabila Maharani (54 kg), Huswatun Hasanah (65 kg), Jill Mandagie (55 kg), Asri Udin (60 kg) and Maikhel Muskita (80 kg). Maikhel, who was defeated in the quarter‑final by South Korean boxer Minseong Kim, voiced his disappointment with the outcome. Nonetheless, he is determined to turn the experience into a learning opportunity for future contests.

Maikhel commented, “I’m really upset because training isn’t a one‑day effort. It takes time that we have to sacrifice, and the heart truly has to be in boxing.” He stressed that learning from mistakes is crucial for improving performance in upcoming competitions.

Perbati Secretary General, Hengky Silatang, believes that the caliber of Indonesian boxers matches that of nations renowned for boxing excellence. However, he noted several areas that require improvement, especially in long‑term preparation. One such need is a dedicated physical trainer to support athletes during training camps.

“Our quality is on par with countries that produce many Olympic champions. What we need is a sustained training centre and a proper evaluation system that includes a specialized physical coach for each athlete,” Hengky said. He clarified that Perbati does not intend to use the poor Asian Games result as a pretext for mutual blame, but rather to use the moment for constructive change.

“We are not assigning blame to everyone. This serves as a stimulus to communicate openly and accept responsibility, with our target being qualification for the Olympics and the upcoming SEA Games in Malaysia,” he added.

In addition to physical conditioning, Hengky emphasized the importance of addressing non‑technical factors during competition. All these evaluation points will be Perbati’s focus for comprehensive improvement, aiming to raise Indonesia’s boxing standards in future events. With a commitment to growth and building a stronger team, Perbati is determined to better prepare its athletes for greater success ahead.
