TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com — A green area of roughly 17 hectares in the Neglakidul area, Setiajaya Village, Cibeureum District, Tasikmalaya City, faces the risk of being converted into a development zone comprising hospitals, hotels, and similar structures.

The plan has sparked opposition from locals. Residents organized a peaceful demonstration and issued a statement of dissent on the rice fields on Sunday (4/10/2026), demonstrating their determination to safeguard the agricultural land that has long been integral to their way of life.

Residents contend that if the paddy fields were to be transformed into built‑up areas, the repercussions would extend beyond the loss of green space.

The 25th anniversary of Tasikmalaya City is not meant to be just a ceremony; Viman promotes city branding and 25 collaborative events; the Gebyar Mancing Siliwangi event celebrates the 81st anniversary of the TNI, and Kodim 0612 Tasikmalaya strengthens ties with the community.

Concerns also exist about water supply, flood risk, drought, and the sustainability of local food resources, which could all be adversely affected.

Abdul Wahid, Chairman of the Negla Community Communication Forum, stated that, based on current information, the process is still in the exploratory and negotiation phase regarding the land. No physical development by the developer has been observed yet.

Nevertheless, he noted that this situation has not led the residents to remain silent.

“There is already some land negotiation taking place on the ground, but it is still only at the negotiation stage,” Abdul Wahid told Radar.

He mentioned that parties involved in the plan have also made several attempts to engage investors. However, as far as the community is aware, no final outcome has been reached.

Consequently, Abdul emphasized that the residents prefer to take action early on to prevent the area from being reclassified before construction gets underway.

“Even though the company has not yet taken any concrete steps, we remain steadfast in preserving our environment to keep it green and pristine, thereby preventing any change of function,” he said.

According to Abdul, the roughly 17‑hectare plot of land belongs to the local residents and is considered customary land.

The site is located in an area that administratively borders Setiajaya Village and Kertanegara Village.

He noted that the land ownership is largely held by residents of Setiajaya Village, even though the majority of the land area is situated within the Kertanegara region.

The impact of the planned development is considered to affect more than just one community group.

At least residents from two villages, along with several RW and RT, are potentially affected.

Abdul believes that the rice fields play a crucial role in the environment.

In addition to being agricultural land, the paddy fields also serve as water absorption areas and support the economic activities of the local population.
