Thecuy.com, Jakarta – Four individuals linked to the Quran memorization contest that promised liquor as a prize during The Sounds Project music festival have now been transferred to the North Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office. The transfer was executed by investigators from Subdit Kamneg Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya after the investigation dossier was deemed complete on September 29, 2026.
The defendants, identified by the initials AK, RE, SM, and IR, are currently lodged in two detention centers: Rutan Cipinang and Rutan Pondok Bambu. According to Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, the Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, following the second stage of the transfer, the public prosecutors will promptly draft an indictment to commence the trial process.
The incident originated from a viral video on social media depicting a Quran recitation challenge at the festival, held in Eco Park Ancol, North Jakarta. In the footage, a festival-goer is seen reciting verses from the Quran in front of a liquor-selling booth. Investigators report that participants were offered a bottle of alcohol as a reward if they could correctly recite Surah Al-Ikhlas and Surah Ad-Dhuha.
Further investigation reveals that RE, acting as the event host, allegedly interacted at the booth, while AK and IR are accused of issuing challenges to attendees. SM is noted for reciting Surah Ad-Dhuha through a loudspeaker. The video of the event subsequently circulated widely on social media, prompting public outcry.
Kombes Pol Budi called on the public to respect the ongoing legal proceedings, refrain from disseminating unverified information, and uphold the principle of innocence until proven guilty.
