We were privileged to conduct a brief interview with anisong singer and Gundam emblem Nami Tamaki while she was in the Philippines for Cosplay Mania 2026. She will also appear at the Japanese Anime Music (JAM) Concert on October 2 as part of her continuing “Nami Tamaki Live 2026 Starbound Tour.”
Nami Tamaki is celebrated for her electrifying J‑Pop sets and signature theme tracks, such as “Brightdown” for the D.Gray‑man series, “Sanctuary” from Kiba, and especially the Mobile Suit Gundam saga. Her 2003 debut single “Believe” served as the opening for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, followed by “Reason” and “Realize.” In 2023 she marked two decades in music by releasing “Reborn” for the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM movie, which also commemorated its 20th anniversary.
Portions of this interview have been modestly revised for improved readability.
Q: What pursuits or pastimes outside of music spark your inspiration and shape your creative outlook?
Nami Tamaki: I enjoy riding my bike, watching anime, playing video games, and sketching. Occasionally I visit art museums as well.
Q: The tracks you performed for Gundam Seed, D. Gray‑Man, and Kiba have turned into beloved, nostalgic favorites for many Filipino fans. How would you describe your experience bringing these classic anisongs to life on your Starbound Tour?
Nami Tamaki: I was overjoyed to hear the crowd singing the lyrics in Japanese with such vigor that I thought the place might explode. It brings me great joy to know that fans have kept cherishing these songs that hold deep meaning for me over the years.
Q: How did you feel when you learned you’d be singing in the Philippines? Is there a special message you’d like to convey to your Filipino supporters?
Nami Tamaki: I read many messages on social media expressing excitement about my return to the Philippines, and it made me truly happy to know that fans are looking forward to seeing me.
I assure you it will be an exciting and enjoyable experience, so let’s make the most of the live performance together!
