The Beginning After the End (TBATE) creator TurtleMe has responded to news that Tapas is being shut down, saying he is still trying to figure out what the decision means for his works that are currently in progress.
In a set of postings on September 23, TurtleMe said that Tapas has served as his base for the last eight years and that he currently creates and releases the comic The Beginning After the End and the novel Soul Forged.
“I’m still trying to get the full picture of what’s happening, but to put it simply, I’m still in shock,” he wrote, adding that he doesn’t yet know what will happen next and is working to clarify the situation with Tapas.
Even with the unclear situation, TurtleMe said he will do everything possible to keep his series alive. He also mentioned that many other Tapas creators are still uncertain about what will happen to their content after the platform closes. You can read his complete statement below.
These remarks come after news that Kakao Entertainment intends to close Tapas as part of an effort to unify its webtoon and web novel offerings. In South Korea, the firm is also set to end Kakao Webtoon and integrate its functions into KakaoPage by the close of 2026.
We earlier spoke with TurtleMe before the anime version of the series premiered, and he told us that Crunchyroll had been “key in connecting the creative idea with a worldwide audience.” The previous year, the writer also launched a Kickstarter drive to fund the printed release of the first three volumes.
