In a recent interview, Geoffrey Rush stated he does not want Barbossa to return in a way that feels simplistic or forced. He believes that if Barbossa makes a comeback, the film should offer a purpose worthy of the character’s more than two‑decade journey.
He even compared Barbossa’s possible return to a Shakespearean concept where a dead character can reappear in some form. For him, a powerful story is the key factor to make the pirate’s comeback feel justified.
Alongside Geoffrey Rush, several former cast members have shown interest in possibly returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean universe. Orlando Bloom previously noted that a reunion of veteran actors would be something appealing to fans.
