For roughly 12 years, Polyarc was a leading name in virtual reality game development. Through its Moss series, the studio demonstrated that VR could be more than just an extra technology—it became a fresh way to connect players with story characters.
Now that adventure has officially come to a close. Polyarc announced it will shut down the studio and stop all active development after almost 12 years of creating video games.
Moss’s Legacy and Quill’s Character in the VR World

Polyarc first gained recognition with Moss, an adventure game following Quill, a brave little mouse in a fantasy realm. The title stood out for offering something unique: players not only control the main character but also take on the role of a helper guiding Quill through the virtual world.
That success continued with Moss: Book II and other projects. The studio also looked to broaden its audience with Moss: The Forgotten Relic, delivering the Moss series experience to more players without requiring VR hardware.
Even though it enjoyed a positive reputation among gamers, Polyarc was forced to call it quits. The studio didn’t provide a clear reason for the shutdown, though it had previously faced challenges when new projects ran into funding issues.
Polyarc’s closure represents a significant loss for the VR community, particularly as the studio was one of the developers that showcased VR’s potential as a storytelling medium.
For many players, Moss wasn’t just a VR game—it was an example of how new technology can craft experiences that feel closer and more personal.
