TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com — A motor vehicle theft ring operating within the jurisdiction of the Tasikmalaya City Police has been dismantled.
A total of 18 police reports related to motor vehicle thefts that occurred from February to August 2026 were resolved during Operation Libas Lodaya 2026.
Tasikmalaya City Police Chief, AKBP Andik Eko Siswanto, stated that the investigation involved five suspects who have been apprehended, while one other suspect remains on the run as a fugitive.

“The number of police reports we were able to resolve from Operation Libas Lodaya 2026 is 18. These cases occurred between February and August,” Andik said during the case unveiling on Monday (31/8/2026).
From this breakthrough, police arrested suspects with the initials D, R, A, HF, and ES. Meanwhile, one suspect, Saeful Ulum, remains at large.
The investigation also yielded significant evidence. Police seized 14 stolen motorcycles, several motorcycles used by the perpetrators, and tools suspected of being used to break into vehicles.
Tasikmalaya City Police Criminal Investigation Chief, AKP Januar Rangga Fardhela, revealed that the perpetrators employed a simple yet repetitive modus operandi: damaging motorcycle lock holes using T-shaped keys, L keys, and prepared lock picks.
“Their modus operandi involves drilling holes into motorcycle locks using L keys and RT (T-shaped) keys,” Januar explained.
According to the police press release, the target vehicles were typically motorcycles with locked handlebars.
The perpetrators first damaged the lock holes using the tools. Once the vehicle started, it was then stolen and driven away from the scene.
Thus, for the perpetrators, vehicle keys were apparently not a significant obstacle.

With just some prepared tools, a motorcycle that was originally used for work or activities could change hands in a short time.
This network was known to operate in several areas, particularly Ciawi, Cisayong, Sukaresik, and surrounding regions.
Police also mentioned that the group engaged in theft activities outside the jurisdiction of the Tasikmalaya City Police, including in Bandung, Sumedang, and Garut districts.
