Thecuy.com – Manchester United (MU) secured their opening triumph in the 2026/2027 Premier League season, prevailing 5‑2 against Ipswich Town in a match held at Old Trafford on Sunday, 30 August 2026.
MU captain Bruno Fernandes was the standout performer, netting a hat‑trick in the 40th, 61st and 68th minutes to steer the Red Devils to victory. Two additional goals for United arrived from an own‑goal by Jacob Greaves in the 56th minute and a strike from Bryan Mbeumo in the 82nd.
Ipswich Town initially took the lead through Leif Davis in the 29th minute before Bruno Fernandes equalised, restoring parity for the Red Devils in the first half. United’s further goals in the second period showcased their dominance after an early Ipswich pressure, which also yielded a strike from Chuba Akpom in the 90+1 minute.
Michael Carrick, United’s manager, celebrated his first Premier League win of the season after United had previously lost their opener 0‑2 to Hull City. The victory propelled United up to tenth position in the provisional table, earning three points from two fixtures.
Despite facing early pressure from the visitors, United gained control after the break. An own‑goal, sparked by a Harry Maguire shot striking Jacob Greaves, proved a crucial turning point that altered the match’s direction.
In addition to Bruno Fernandes’ impressive performance, United goalkeeper Senne Lammens also delivered a solid display with several key saves, thwarting Ipswich’s chances especially in the opening half.
Michael Carrick indicated that United remain open to adding fresh talent, notably at left‑back, before the transfer window closes. Despite signing several players with a combined outlay exceeding £150 million, defensive requirements continue to be a primary focus.
This win is expected to spark a resurgence for United, who aim to re‑establish themselves among the Premier League’s elite this season after a sluggish start. Meanwhile, Ipswich, who also collected three points from two games, sit just below United in 12th place.
