TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The 81st Independence Day celebration in Sambongpari Village, Mangkubumi District, Tasikmalaya City, was not merely a matter of entertainment.

The climax of the event, which took place on Saturday evening (29/8/2026), also featured a performance of angklung by children as part of an effort to introduce and preserve traditional arts.

Dozens of elementary school students performed playing angklung in front of residents. The performance became one of the colors in a series of art shows involving various elements of Sambongpari Village community.

SDN 1 Rahayu teacher, Iis Istikomah, said the activity served as a means for children to welcome the independence moment with full responsibility while learning to love local arts.

“For the children’s future, so they can greet August 17 thoughtfully and responsibly,” Iis said.

According to her, the children who performed had been introduced to angklung since they were in second grade of elementary school. Now, some of them are in fourth grade.

Iis said that around 30 to 40 children participated in the angklung performance.

“To learn and preserve angklung,” she said.

She hoped that the existence of angklung among the younger generation would not end merely with performances in independence day celebrations.

On the contrary, the art is expected to continue to develop and find its place in the future.

“Hopefully angklung will go further, be brighter, and be more successful,” Iis said.

The children’s performance also served as a reminder that independence is not only celebrated with jubilation, but can also be filled with preserving cultural heritage.

Because, we must not let young people memorize current songs but instead be awkward when asked about traditional musical instruments from their own region.

Meanwhile, Sambongpari Village Head, Reny Nuraeny, expressed appreciation for the successful implementation of the activity.

She admitted that she had only been serving as the definitive village head for a few months and was striving to build collaboration with various community elements to revive activities in her area.

Reny said that the artistic creation activity was part of an effort to enliven the environment and provide space for the community to be creative.

The activity is also planned to continue involving other community groups, including Posyandu and PKK mothers.

“Now the art event is for children, later it will continue for Posyandu mothers and PKK mothers,” she said.
