Thecuy.com – Marc Cucurella and Mikel Oyarzabal have come into the spotlight following their crucial roles in Spain’s triumph as world champions at the 2026 World Cup. Cucurella honored his vow by tattooing the face of La Furia Roja’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, on the inner left arm as a commemoration of the historic achievement.
After the summer break, Cucurella instantly showcased his abilities with his new club, Real Madrid. During his debut at Santiago Bernabeu, he was introduced as a substitute as Los Blancos defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 on 27 August 2026. Prior to the match, Cucurella was accorded a special guard of honour by the players of both sides and carried the World Cup trophy onto the pitch. He also brought Mikel Oyarzabal, the captain of Real Sociedad and Spain’s top scorer in the tournament, to join the supporters’ greeting in the centre of the field.
Post-match, Cucurella was queried about the possibility of getting a Champions League tattoo should Real Madrid win the competition again. He opted for a diplomatic response, stating that he was not ready to think that far ahead and would wait to see what unfolds.
Meanwhile, Mikel Oyarzabal commented on the difficult encounter against Real Madrid. He felt that Real Sociedad were able to compete fiercely during the opening hour and exert pressure on Madrid, but struggled to keep up that intensity for the entire game. Oyarzabal stressed the necessity for boldness and consistent ball control so that his team could generate more scoring chances and reduce defensive vulnerabilities.
Despite the loss, Oyarzabal expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the Santiago Bernabeu crowd, viewing it as recognition of his World Cup contributions. However, he highlighted the moment as a success for Cucurella, who also received public accolades.
In the match, Real Madrid featured Kylian Mbappé, who performed brilliantly by netting a hat-trick and securing his team’s 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad. Real Madrid’s manager, José Mourinho, praised Mbappé’s ambition and hunger to write new history with the club, despite the player’s already impressive track record.
Real Madrid’s performance in the second half demonstrated a marked improvement, with players such as Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior making crucial contributions to the win. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad posed threats and managed to equalise before eventually conceding again to Madrid.
Spain’s World Cup triumph and Cucurella’s standout debut with Real Madrid mark significant milestones in both players’ careers. Meanwhile, Oyarzabal continues to strive to keep Real Sociedad competitive in the 2026/2027 Spanish league season.
