TASIKMALAYA, RADSIK – The main Dadaha road, which has been closed and occupied by street vendors, will remain unused for now. The Tasikmalaya City Government believes this approach will help disperse crowds and restore the area’s primary function as a sports facility, which is deemed more important than easing vehicle traffic.

As part of the Dadaha area redevelopment plan, the Tasikmalaya City Government intentionally closed the road to encourage crowds to spread to the stadium and Cintarasa areas. Once a residential traffic route, the road now serves only as a trading area for vendors on the sidewalk, with no vehicle traffic.

The Chairman of the Dadaha Area Redevelopment Team, who also serves as Asda 3 Secretariat of the Tasikmalaya City Region, Asep Maman Permana, stated that the closed road section has not yet been allocated for any specific facility. It remains a temporary measure, pending evaluation of the redevelopment process and its impact on traffic management and engineering.

“For now, the road is simply closed. Whether it will be reopened or permanently closed depends on the evaluation, and the decision rests with the Transportation Department,” Asep said.

He explained that the primary goal of this traffic management strategy is to disperse crowds. By regulating vehicle access, residents are encouraged to avoid concentrating their activities in a single location, particularly around the jogging track and Dadaha Park.

“These areas will become busier as a result of the traffic management measures,” he said.

According to Asep, the redevelopment aims to restore Dadaha’s main function as a sports area, prioritizing this over easing traffic access for drivers.

Over time, the area has become a hub for various community activities, including economic pursuits, parking, and nighttime events. This has led to underutilization of some sports facilities by residents.

“How can we restore Dadaha’s function? Why restore Dadaha as a sports facility? Because it has been predominantly used for other activities until now,” he said.

One area of concern is Dadaha Park, which is frequently used by vendors for nighttime trading. Some stalls have even been constructed permanently or semi-permanently.
