Makoto Shinkai posted an early concept drawing for Your Name to mark ten years since the film’s Japanese theatrical launch. The movie first appeared in Japanese theaters on August 26, 2016.

Shinkai explained the illustration was drafted in autumn 2015 while he was brainstorming ideas for a teaser poster. Reflecting on the anniversary, he expressed joy that the tale still resonates with audiences and thanked all who have watched Your Name over the past decade. He added that there are no special events slated for the 10th anniversary.

Shinkai also spoke about his upcoming project, stating the crew is still busy on the new picture. He remarked that directing is as hard and puzzling for him now as it was ten years back, calling the craft still mysterious and thrilling. His entire post can be found beneath.

Ten years have passed since *Your Name.* hit theaters; time sure flies by.

I’m truly pleased that this tale still dwells in viewers’ hearts, and our production crew also enjoyed countless memorable moments while working on *Your Name*.

No special 10th‑anniversary celebrations are in the works—haha—but the crew continues to labor on a new movie that we aim to share with you soon.

Personally, I haven’t grown much better at filmmaking over the past decade. It remains an exceedingly challenging craft; just as a decade ago, it is still an uncharted and thrilling endeavor.

I will keep giving my all to deliver an enjoyable film for you as quickly as I can.

The picture is an early teaser‑poster concept I was sketching in the fall of 2015.

I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has watched *Your Name* throughout the years.

Your Name. ultimately emerged as one of the most successful international releases in Japanese animation. The movie grossed over ¥25 billion (≈ $158 million) domestically and held the title of the top‑earning Japanese film worldwide until it was later eclipsed by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train. Subsequently, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle also surpassed those numbers on a global scale. Currently, Your Name ranks as Japan’s fourth highest‑grossing anime movie at home, trailing behind Mugen Train, Infinity Castle and Spirited Away.

Shinkai subsequently directed Weathering with You in 2019 and Suzume in 2022.
