TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – A total of 2,681 red and white flags were raised simultaneously at the crater area of Mount Galunggung, Sukaratu District, Tasikmalaya Regency, on Monday (17/8/2026). The flag-raising ceremony of thousands of flags formed part of the 81st Independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Indonesia.

A massive event initiated by the Forum for Communication on Care for Nature and Environment of Tasikmalaya (FKPAT) also set a MURI record as the largest flag-raising ceremony at Mount Galunggung. The activity took place at an altitude of approximately 1,186 metres above sea level.

Thousands of participants from various backgrounds joined the event. Prior to taking part in the ceremony at the crater rim, the participants had to climb 620 steps to reach the site.

Tasikmalaya Regent Cecep Nurul Yakin stated that breaking the record was a special moment during the 81st Independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Indonesia.

“This flag-raising is an expression of gratitude. It took place at Mount Galunggung, which is a part of Tasikmalaya Regency’s history,” he said.
