TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The trial concerning the alleged assault on Ajengan Abdul Yani, which occurred in Pasir Madang, Cikatomas District, Tasikmalaya Regency, resumed at the Tasikmalaya Class IA District Court on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

During the hearing of the suspected assault case that took place on April 15, 2026, the panel of judges listened to statements from several witnesses presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (JPU).

The witnesses included Ajengan Abdul Yani as the victim, Kusnandar, and Imin as witnesses. Additionally, there was an expert witness, a doctor from the Cikatomas Community Health Center, who had previously examined the victim.

The victim’s legal counsel, Ir Taufiq Rahman, SH, MH, CPCLE, expressed confidence that the alleged assault against his client, Ajengan Abdul Yani, by the defendant S, alias Abang, can be proven based on facts revealed during the trial.

The victim’s attorney, Ir Taufiq Rahman, SH, MH, CPCLE, stated that the examination of several witnesses further strengthened their belief that the assault did take place.

“We are convinced, based on trial evidence, that the assault occurred. Because there is consistency among the testimonies of the witnesses,” said Taufiq.

He believes that the alleged assault affected his client, Ajengan Abdul Yani, who is known as the Deputy Chairman of the MUI in Cayur Village.

Taufiq added that his side is now awaiting the trial process and the court’s decision. He assessed that there are at least two pieces of evidence visible during the trial.

“And today we prove that the issue portrayed as a criminalization of farmers is, I believe, unfounded,” he said.

He explained that his side does not contest the farming profession attached to several parties in the case. In fact, he said, Abdul Yani himself has been involved in farming for decades.

“We have remained silent because the issue has been twisted. Such as the narrative of farmer criminalization and the PTPN (PT Perkebunan Nusantara) corruption case,” he said.

He also urged that the narrative of farmer criminalization not be used to obscure the ongoing alleged assault case in court.

“To prevent discord using the farmer criminalization narrative. Let the issue not be exploited to shift the case of assault against a religious figure, a kiai, a religious leader, and also the Deputy Chairman of the MUI,” he said.
