Kingdom Hearts IV got a longer gameplay trailer at D23 2026, after a brief preview the day before. The show also said that Pixar’s Coco will appear in the upcoming title.

The franchise’s creator and director, Tetsuya Nomura, surprised everyone by showing up at the panel, where more footage of the highly anticipated next main game was shown. Square Enix also shared an update on the project’s progress and timing. The co-director, Tai Yasue, reported that development is moving ahead without issues and confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV is “100%” set to release in 2027.

“I can confidently say and promise that it will launch in 2027. Schedule wise, development is very smooth. It’s not like an 80% or 90% thing, it’s a 100% thing.”

After years of few details about Kingdom Hearts IV, this news arrives; the game was first teased in April 2022 for the series’ 20th birthday. Its debut trailer appeared at Nintendo Direct in June. It will launch on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox ON PC, Nintendo Switch™ 2, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

At D23, Disney and Square Enix unveiled the first original animated Kingdom Hearts series, which will introduce a fresh narrative and involve Nomura and Square Enix’s creative staff.

Since its 2002 debut as a partnership between Square Enix and Disney, the Kingdom Hearts series blends its own characters with Disney worlds and icons. In the last twenty years, it has grown into many console and handheld titles, moving over 38 million copies globally and establishing itself as one of Square Enix’s top franchises.

The latest main entry, Kingdom Hearts III, wrapped up the long Dark Seeker Saga focusing on Xehanort, whereas Kingdom Hearts IV will start a fresh narrative.
