TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Initiatives to boost agricultural productivity in Tasikmalaya City are now focusing on adopting modern farming methods. One approach is cultivating rice using the Advanced Modern Agriculture System (PM AAS) in Sukamanah Village, Cipedes District, on Wednesday (12/8/2026).
Diky Chandra, Deputy Mayor of Tasikmalaya, stated that implementing this method is part of a central government program currently being promoted in several areas.
“This is definitely a central government initiative. It was previously introduced in Subang, and several regions are required to participate in the program,” Diky remarked during his site visit.

He said that the target for PM AAS implementation in Tasikmalaya City is 19 hectares. However, only about 8 hectares of land have currently been included in the program.
Diky noted that a key obstacle is the shortage of supporting equipment. For this activity, the drum sider equipment is still being borrowed from Polbangtan.
Nonetheless, Tasikmalaya City is considered to have the potential to develop similar technology. In fact, local millennial farmers have already created a method that is more or less the same, with some additional enhancements.
“In Tasik City, there are also young millennial farmers who have created a format that is more or less the same, with added value. It might be possible to develop it further,” he said.
Diky hopes that budget constraints won’t impede agricultural technology development. Especially given the current regional fiscal situation, purchasing equipment cannot yet be done through regular budgets. “If possible, maybe in the revision. Hopefully, there will be parties that can assist the broader community in Tasik City to achieve the target,” he said.
The implementation of PM AAS is not expected to be limited to a single area. Diky stated that the program is now targeting almost all sub-districts, with significant equipment needs, especially in Mangkubumi and Kawalu sub-districts.

Meanwhile, the Head of DKP3 of Tasikmalaya City, Hj Ely Suminar, explained that PM AAS is a modern agricultural method using direct seed planting (tabela). The main difference lies in the planting pattern and plant population density.
