Political and legal analyst Boni Hargens considered this move a crucial strategy to bolster governance, particularly in confronting global geopolitical dynamics and domestic uncertainties. The society‑policing and community‑based policing approach championed by the Police Chief positions the public as active partners in maintaining security and preserving national unity.
In addition, the government reinforced civil‑society participation by recognizing 20 new community organizations within the Forum of Indonesian Golden Society (Formas). The Chairman of Formas’ Supervisory Board, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, stated that this step aims to oversee key government programmes, especially in delivering public welfare in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision.
The forum currently embraces 103 mass organisations dedicated to providing constructive input for national development and preserving the nation’s unity. On the other hand, Indonesian civil society, despite its strong capacity to generate criticism and policy recommendations, still struggles to drive structural change. The professionalisation of civil‑society organisations has enhanced technical expertise but reduced their involvement in crucial electoral politics needed to alter state policies.
Maintaining distance from electoral politics as a demonstration of independence often makes civil‑society organisations find it hard to act as effective agents of change. Consequently, a strategically built synergy between security forces and civil society is seen as key to preserving national stability and advancing the Prabowo‑Gibran administration.
This collaboration is hoped to go beyond security duties, also strengthening public trust in law‑enforcement agencies and delivering sustainable development programmes for the nation’s welfare.
