Thecuy.com, Pandeglang – Chili prices at Pasar Badak, Pandeglang Regency, have surged sharply over the past three days. Orange chili is now sold at up to Rp60,000 per kilogram, while red chili reaches Rp50,000 per kilogram.
The price hike was reported by Aas, a kitchen spice vendor at Pasar Badak. He explained that orange chili rose from Rp48,000 to Rp60,000 per kilogram, and red chili jumped from Rp30,000 to Rp50,000 per kilogram.
Aas added that the price spike has persisted for the last three days with no signs of easing. According to him, the main cause is reduced chili supply from source regions. In addition, public demand has increased ahead of the month of Safar as many residents buy and stock up on chili.
“Supply has decreased. Ahead of the month of Safar many residents buy and store chili, so the price rises,” he said.
Even though chili prices have soared, other food commodities such as vegetables and other kitchen spices remain relatively stable, according to Aas. He confirmed that the price increase only affects red and orange chili.
This situation illustrates how the dynamics of staple food markets can be influenced by fluctuating supply and demand, especially before certain moments in the community’s calendar.
