TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – A landslide struck Kampung Naga in Neglasari village, Salawu district, Tasikmalaya regency, on Sunday (19/7/2026) around 16.45 WIB. Residents filmed the event, and the video later circulated on social media.

In the amateur footage, the ground shifted abruptly and trees were displaced quickly, causing them to fall. A man could be heard reciting selawat, while a woman shouted for her child who was searching for eels in a rice field.

The head of the Tasikmalaya Regency BPBD, Roni AKS, explained that before the landslide, the rice fields could not be cultivated for an entire planting season—about four months—because irrigation water was halted for repairs.

“The interruption of irrigation water during repairs, coupled with the start of the dry season, caused the rice fields to dry out and the soil to crack,” Roni elaborated.

After repairs were finished, water flow resumed. However, the already cracked, dry soil allowed the irrigation water to seep into the fissures.

“The irrigation water infiltrated the cracks, and when an earthquake occurred, it triggered the landslide,” Roni clarified.

BPBD’s verification shows the slope failure spanned roughly 50 metres; its upper width ranged from 1 to 4 metres, the lower width about 10 metres, and its height around 18 metres. The landslide site is opposite the slope, approximately 76 metres from the Kampung Adat Naga settlement.

The debris covered about 1.5 hectares of rice fields beneath the slope and severed the irrigation canal that waters the surrounding paddies.

“The irrigation ditch feeding the adjacent rice fields was cut off by the landslide debris. No lives were lost in the incident,” Roni stated.

BPBD has coordinated with the UPT SDA Ciwulan Cilaki and the local government, and inspected the site. Required actions include clearing the landslide debris, installing 8‑inch PVC pipes for 100 metres to replace the broken water channel, normalising and repairing the irrigation system, conducting a technical stability assessment of the slope, and constructing or reinforcing the slope based on the study’s findings.
