AHAVERSE has officially unveiled HEIBAI, a brand‑new animated spin‑off set in the Scissor Seven universe. The company made the announcement during its New World Premiere at BilibiliWorld 2026, highlighting a project that will feature fresh leads and explore earlier chapters of the franchise’s story.
AHAVERSE is now targeting a Chinese launch in Q1 2027, with an international rollout to be revealed separately at a later date.
Unlike the main series that follows Seven, HEIBAI focuses on two distinct heroes, Mo Lang and Bai Qi. Their tale starts with a dragon’s murder and evolves into an epic of friendship, personal growth, and trials. Set before the events of Scissor Seven, the show offers a fresh view of the larger world while expanding the franchise’s mythos through new settings, characters, and plots.
Sinopsis resmi
Originating from the Scissor Seven world before the hit animated series, HEIBAI follows Mo Lang and Bai Qi, two young heroes whose journey begins with a dragon’s murder and grows into a saga of friendship, trials, and personal transformation. The series broadens the franchise with fresh narratives, new protagonists, and a new outlook on the wider universe.
The announcement is part of AHAVERSE’s ambitious push to turn Scissor Seven into a multimedia franchise that goes beyond its original animated series. Alongside HEIBAI, the company also revealed Scissor Seven: The Movie, an official mobile action‑adventure game, the launch of the AHABOOKS publishing imprint, the Cheap‑Life Hua manhua spin‑off, and the annual Chicken Island Party live music event.
In his address at the event, AHAVERSE founder and Chief IP Officer Aiken Zou stated that the announcements reflect a long‑term vision to broaden the franchise with fresh stories and new creative voices.
“Today isn’t about unveiling a list of unrelated projects. It’s about showing how a story can grow into a world, through new characters, new adventures, and new creative voices. Our goal is to give global audiences more worlds to revisit, while creating chances for creators to help shape the future of the narrative.”
Since its 2018 debut, Scissor Seven has grown into one of China’s most successful native animation franchises. It became the first Chinese‑produced series to stream as a Netflix Original, reaching viewers in over 190 countries, amassing more than 40 million fans worldwide, and surpassing 30 billion views across platforms. The franchise now also includes comics, games, music, merchandise, and live experiences.
Bukan sebuah prequel
Even though HEIBAI takes place about 25 years before the events of Scissor Seven, AHAVERSE clarified that the show isn’t a conventional prequel. In an interview with the team, they outlined the distinction:
“Although HEIBAI takes place about 25 years before the events of Scissor Seven, we don’t consider it a conventional prequel. It’s primarily a standalone series with its own hero, conflict, and emotional journey.
That means viewers aren’t just watching events that lead straight to the Seven storyline. HEIBAI brings in entirely new characters, relationships, and conflicts, many of which have unpredictable outcomes. Even when audiences recognize specific events, locales, or historical factions, the emotional journey of Mo Lang, Bai Qi, and those around them stays full of surprises.”
AHAVERSE explained why now is the perfect moment to bring this story to animation:
“HEIBAI actually started as an official Scissor Seven manhua spin‑off a few years ago, quickly becoming one of the most popular original comics in China. Bringing it to animation feels like the natural next chapter for a story that already has a very dedicated fan base.
What’s more, we didn’t pick Mo Lang and Bai Qi just because their story is set before Scissor Seven. We chose them because they have an intriguing journey of their own. Their contrasting personalities, different takes on power and justice, and evolving friendship create a dynamic that’s very distinct from Seven, while still echoing many of the themes that define the broader universe.”
When asked what might surprise loyal fans most when HEIBAI actually airs, the team added:
“I think many dedicated fans will be surprised by how much more story there is in the Scissor Seven universe waiting to be told.
HEIBAI isn’t just revisiting familiar spots or answering some unanswered questions. It introduces an earlier era of the world with its own heroes, rivalries, adventures, and emotional journeys, while also shedding more light on the history of Xuanwu and the many factions that continue to shape the world in the time of Seven.”
