Thecuy.com, Madiun — The community of Manguharjo sub‑district, Madiun City, organized a village cleaning event that also marked the one‑year anniversary of the Kawak Gedongan Market on Sunday, July 12, 2026. This gathering served as both a thank‑you ceremony and a cultural preservation effort, featuring performances by local residents.

Various cultural acts were showcased, such as gamelan music (karawitan), a grand dance, and a short ketoprak theatre featuring the tale of Suminten Edan. Attendees had the chance to sample diverse culinary offerings from micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKMs) operating stalls near the venue.

Madiun’s Acting Mayor, F. Bagus Panuntun, was present at the occasion. He noted that the Kawak Gedongan Market zone possesses considerable room for growth, bolstered by its themed village concept and a cultural pavilion.

“In his view, the Gedongan Market carries promising prospects for expansion. Its themed village is already functioning, complete with a cultural pavilion, and he stressed the need for swift enhancement of these facilities,” he said.

Bagus further commended the spectacular dance put on by the people of Manguharjo sub‑district, seeing it as a clear illustration of the area’s rich cultural talent worth further development. He is considering including the dance troupe in the celebrations for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, slated for August in Madiun City.

“The women’s dancing skills are excellent. After a little more training, I plan to have them march along Pahlawan Street in Madiun City during August’s Independence Day events. I anticipate about 2,000‑3,000 local dancers will take part,” he added.

Looking ahead, Bagus encouraged every sub‑district to become more active in uncovering its unique strengths through initiatives like the village ceremony. He considered such efforts essential as the groundwork for boosting tourism in each area in the years to come.
