The brand‑new NARUTO anime, announced for the series’ 20th anniversary, has now been revealed as a four‑episode collaboration with NINKU.

Originally slated to air on TV Tokyo for four straight weeks beginning September 3, 2023, the project was postponed just before its broadcast to let the team improve its quality. No significant news emerged for more than three years.

The newly unveiled series will feature an original tale where a youthful Naruto Uzumaki finds himself trapped in the world of NINKU while on a mission.

The collaboration was announced during the most recent NARUTO anime presentations at New York Comic Con 2026. Prior to the convention, the official NARUTO website indicated that the “NARUTO: What’s Next?” segment would debut a worldwide exclusive concerning brand‑new animation for the franchise.

Although NINKU remains far less known among global viewers compared to NARUTO, the link between the two franchises stretches back many decades.

Koji Kiriyama created NINKU, which premiered in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1993. The series centers on Fusuke, a youthful ex‑member of the Ninku Corps who wields “Ninku,” a hybrid martial art merging ninjutsu and karate. Following a catastrophic war, Fusuke roams a chaotic realm seeking his abducted mother while battling foes who persecute former Ninku combatants.

Studio Pierrot turned the manga into a 55‑episode TV anime that ran on Fuji TV from January 1995 through February 1996. The series was directed by Noriyuki Abe, with Hiroshi Hashimoto handling composition and Tetsuya Nishio together with Mari Kitayama designing the characters.

NARUTO was showcased at New York Comic Con on October 10, where “exciting new updates” were disclosed. Junko Takeuchi, the Japanese voice actor for Naruto Uzumaki, and Noriaki Sugiyama, the Japanese voice actor for Sasuke Uchiha, participated as special guests.

NARUTO is a manga authored by Masashi Kishimoto. It debuted in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in September 1999 and continued for 15 years until November 2014, concluding with 72 volumes. Studio Pierrot produced the anime series, which launched in October 2002 and spanned 220 episodes. The anime was succeeded by a spin‑off titled NARUTO Shippuden, which consisted of 500 episodes.

There is also a sequel manga titled BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS, initially penned by Ukyo Kodachi. Masashi Kishimoto subsequently assumed the narrative duties, with illustrations provided by Mikio Ikimoto. The series premiered in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016 before transferring to V Jump in 2019.

The second arc of the manga, named BORUTO: TWO BLUE VORTEX, launched in August 2023. The anime adaptation of BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS premiered in April 2017, entered a hiatus in March 2023, and a four‑episode special originally slated for four back‑to‑back weeks starting September 3, 2023, was postponed to enhance its quality.

A fresh NARUTO Card Game TCG was also recently unveiled for a 2027 release, alongside a wordless live‑action performance scheduled at Kyoto’s Minamiza Theater from February through June 2027. The live‑action movie helmed by the director of Spider‑Man: Brand New Day, Destin Daniel Cretton, has started auditions for the roles of Team 7’s Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura.
