TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – A semi‑permanent house belonging to an elderly person in Kampung Tonjong RT 001/RW 001, Village of Tanjungsari, Sub‑district of Salawu, Tasikmalaya Regency, was reduced to ashes on Sunday night (19/7/2026). The fire is believed to have been triggered by an explosion of a cooking‑gas cylinder that originated in the house’s kitchen.
The 6 × 8‑meter dwelling, owned by 84‑year‑old Ibu Euner and occupied by one family of two members, was completely destroyed, with all its contents consumed by the flames.
Ayatullah Romdoni, Deputy Chairman of the Tasikmalaya Regency FK Tagana, said that, according to witness statements, the blaze started while two locals, Rahman and Surya, were near the scene.

“Both witnesses saw 84‑year‑old Ibu Euner heading toward her grandson’s house for the night. Shortly thereafter, a flash of light was observed coming from the fish pond in front of the victim’s residence,” Ayat said.
While conducting an inspection, Ayat continued, the witnesses noticed smoke and sparks billowing from the kitchen wall, the upper portion of which was made of bamboo weaves.
“Shortly after, an explosion—believed to have come from a gas cylinder—was heard, and the flames quickly spread across the entire roof of the house,” Ayat said.
Before fire‑fighters and Tagana personnel arrived, locals attempted to extinguish the blaze manually by drawing water from the pond surrounding the house.
“Although strong winds initially hindered efforts and caused the flames to grow rapidly, the fire was eventually brought under control thanks to community cooperation,” he explained.
No lives were lost in the incident, but the entire structure and its contents were completely destroyed by fire. The estimated financial loss amounted to Rp50 million.
Ayat stated that officials, together with relevant agencies, have conducted an assessment for further data collection and handling.
