Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled its newest Samsung 990 SSD lineup, offering two storage options: 1 TB and 2 TB. Powered by a PCIe 4.0 interface, the drive delivers high performance alongside improved energy efficiency, making it suitable for gaming, content creation, and everyday PC use.
The launch of the Samsung 990 SSD comes at a time of notable PC market growth in Indonesia. IDC reports that PC shipments in the country rose by 9.4% year‑on‑year in the first quarter of 2026. Beyond productivity, PCs have become a primary tool for roughly 28% of Indonesian gamers and are increasingly adopted by content creators.
“The latest Samsung 990 SSD serves as a perfect storage upgrade for users seeking to handle heavy workloads, enjoy richer gaming experiences, produce high‑resolution content, or build custom DIY PCs,” said Tommy (Hyoungsuk) Kwon, Vice President of Memory Brand Product Business at Samsung Electronics.
In terms of performance, the 2 TB variant can read sequentially at up to 7,250 MB/s, while the 1 TB version reaches 7,150 MB/s. Both models provide sequential write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s, resulting in faster data transfers and quicker application and game loading times.
The Samsung 990 SSD also delivers strong random performance. The 2 TB model can achieve up to 850,000 IOPS for reads and 1,200,000 IOPS for writes, whereas the 1 TB version offers up to 700,000 IOPS for reads and 1,100,000 IOPS for writes. This performance ensures that launching applications, multitasking, and playing AAA titles feel more responsive.
Beyond speed, Samsung has improved power efficiency by as much as 38% compared with the Samsung 990 PRO. Lower power consumption lets users enjoy high performance without sacrificing energy efficiency.
Samsung also bundles Samsung Magician Software, which simplifies data migration, monitors SSD health, optimizes performance, and safeguards user data.
The Samsung 990 SSD will be available worldwide in 1 TB and 2 TB capacities. In Indonesia, the drive is priced at roughly Rp4,937,754 for the 1 TB version and Rp9,753,287 for the 2 TB version. Sales are set to commence in late July via the Samsung Memory Official Store on Tokopedia, Shopee, and selected electronics retailers.
