The Folio Society has unveiled the first-ever illustrated edition of Haruki Murakami’s acclaimed novel, 1Q84. This special release debuted on September 16, 2025, showcasing captivating new artwork by Colombian illustrator Daniel Liévano.

The edition features two volumes, each adorned with twelve full-color illustrations, including five stunning double-page spreads. Additionally, over sixty intricate motifs are seamlessly integrated throughout the text. The volumes are elegantly bound in purple cloth and housed in a luxurious slipcase, embellished with metallic foil and a distinctive die-cut moon design. The bindings showcase scenes from the novel, while the endpapers display two unique illustrations. The novel, spanning over 1,000 pages, is printed in two colors, highlighted by purple and orange accents.

To complement the release, Anime Corner has exclusively shared some of the interior artwork, offering a glimpse into the visual brilliance of this edition.

Originally published in Japan between 2009 and 2010, 1Q84 is widely regarded as Murakami’s masterpiece. Set in Tokyo during 1984, the story revolves around Aomame and Tengo as they explore a bizarre parallel world where two moons dominate the sky and a sinister cult wields power. This narrative masterfully blends elements of surrealism, mystery, and romance, all hallmarks of Murakami’s distinctive style.

Daniel Liévano, the illustrator behind this edition, expressed his excitement in adapting 1Q84, emphasizing the opportunity to innovate while preserving the core themes that define Murakami’s work.

The Folio Society’s edition of 1Q84 is priced at £150 or US $215 and is available exclusively through the publisher’s website.
