Pada Kamis, tanggal 14 Agustus 2025, warga Kecamatan Mangkubumi di Tasikmalaya menghadiri perayaan ulang tahun ke-80 kemerdekaan RI dengan antusias. Various traditional Sundanese games were held at the Mangkubumi subdistrict field, creating a joyful atmosphere.

The event attracted participants of all ages, who eagerly joined in the festivities. The lively scene drew widespread attention from the community.

Wakil Wali Kota Tasikmalaya, Diky Chandra, also participated in the competitions. With enthusiasm, he joined the traditional game of Endog-Endogan, blending in with the residents and boosting the spirits of participants who had gathered since morning.

Diky emphasized that this event was more than just entertainment. According to him, such activities are crucial for preserving local culture, which is increasingly threatened by modern influences. He expressed admiration for the Sundanese Senam Tani performed, considering it unique and having great development potential.

“I’m amazed. I’ve already proposed this idea to the Kemenpora’s special staff and plan to organize Sundanese Senam Tani in the Setda environment. Hopefully, similar activities will be held more frequently to keep our culture alive, especially for the younger generation,” Diky stated.

However, Diky also acknowledged the significant challenges faced by Sundanese Kaulinan due to digitalization. To address this, he advocated for tiered competitions from the village level up to the provincial level to ensure traditional games remain relevant in society’s hearts.

“If this succeeds, the benefits won’t be limited to culture. UMKM sectors like bamboo crafts, kebaya, pangsi, iket, tarumpah, and tourism can also thrive. Culture has a multiplier effect, offering widespread advantages, including economic ones,” he added.

The event was initiated by local youth under the leadership of Nandang Ali, Chairman of Karangtaruna Mangkubumi. Beyond preserving culture, the series of events aimed to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day with various competitions, running from August 14 to 15, 2025.

Other exciting activities included karang taruna march competitions, national song contests, LKBB linmas, inter-DKM azan competitions, grand tabligh, art creations, and community ulin performances. Nandang Ali affirmed that this event accommodated all community elements in the subdistrict and invited them to collectively celebrate Independence Day together.
