The anime “The WorldIs Dancing” has unveiled its main trailer and key visual, along with new cast members and a July 2 release date. The series, based on Kazuto Mihara’s historical manga about the origins of Noh theater, was announced earlier this year. Shochiku and CyberAgent are handling production, with animation done by Cypic (formerly CygamesPictures).
The main voice cast was previously announced, with additions including Takahiro Sakurai as Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, Nobuo Tobita as Nijo Yoshimoto, Mamiko Noto as Nariko, Inori Minase as Chiharu, and Hazuki Seto as Satsuki. Their voices and the opening theme “shusho” by Macaroni Empitsu can be heard in the new trailer.
The production emphasizes accurate depictions of traditional Noh performances. Reijiro Tsumura, a Kanze-school Noh performer and cultural heritage holder, oversees the choreography. Additional work is done by dancer Kaiji Moriyama and choreographer Mikiko Kawamura. The team includes director Toshimasa Kuroyanagi, character designer Keigo Sasaki, calligrapher Satoru Nemoto, and animation by Cypic.
The official synopsis describes a 14th-century story about a boy named Oniyasha born into a sarugaku family. Haunted by questions about dance, he witnesses a transformative performance, leading him to shape Noh as Zeami. This adaptation of Kazuto Mihara’s six-volume manga, serialized in Kodansha’s Morning, explores Zeami’s cultural and personal growth during Noh’s evolution. The English manga is available on KODANSHA.
