The upcoming “Awakening Mystery” film adaptation introduces a fresh key visual for its initial segment, set to debut in Japan on October 23, 2026. This announcement also reveals that earlier Made in Abyss recap films and series will be showcased again in theaters. The lineup includes the compilation movies Journey’s Dawn and Wandering Twilight, alongside Dawn of the Deep Soul and the TV anime sequel The Golden City of the Scorching Sun.

This new movie will directly continue the narrative from the 2022 TV anime The Golden City of the Scorching Sun. Kinema Citrus, the animation studio responsible for prior works, will handle the production again. The team comprises:

A live event titled Made in Abyss Film Concert: Deep Echoes of Resonance took place on February 8, 2026, at Tokyo’s Nakano ZERO Grand Hall. Composer Kevin Penkin led a live orchestra performing the anime’s music, paired with anime clips on a large screen. Vocalists Ko Saito and KIHOW (MYTH & ROID), known for the series’ theme songs, also performed. Main cast members Miyu Tomita (Riko), Mariya Ise (Reg), and Shiori Izawa (Nanachi) attended.
