The manga A Witch’s Life in Mongol by Tomato Soup, serialized since 2021, has five volumes as of April 2025. It topped Takarajimasha’s “This Manga is Amazing!” list and earned consecutive Manga Taisho Awards. Yen Press holds the English license.

The story follows Sitara, a 13th-century girl orphaned in Iran’s slave markets. After being raised by Fatima, a scholar’s family, she embraces knowledge until the Mongol Empire’s expansion disrupts her life. Captured by Prince Tolui, she vows revenge against the invading forces.

The official synopsis states: “A girl’s journey through loss and resilience, shaped by knowledge and rebellion against an empire.”

The series combines historical elements with fantasy, exploring themes of empowerment and cultural clash. Its production blends traditional animation techniques with modern storytelling, aiming to honor the manga’s legacy while expanding its appeal.

This adaptation promises to captivate audiences with its emotional depth and vivid portrayal of a pivotal era. The voice cast’s dedication and the director’s vision suggest a compelling narrative that balances historical authenticity with creative storytelling.
