Dont worry if you feared summer might lack isekai anime. The anime adaptation of From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage will debut this July. The production team released a visual, website, and cast information along with the announcement.

Studio EMT Squared, known for Train to the End of the World, will handle the animation. Hisashi Ishii will direct, while Deko Akao writes the script and Hideki Furukawa designs characters. The main voice cast includes Shuichirou Umeda as Ephtal, Haruka Shitaishi as Merlin, and Reo Osanai as Anastasia.

From Overshadowed to Overpowered began as a Shosetsuka ni Naru web novel by Arata Sgiraishi in 2018. Kadokawa acquired it the next year, publishing it as a light novel under Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko with illustrations by Denim Uo. The light novel had eight volumes. Kentaro adapted it into a manga titled Rakudai Kenja no Gakuin Musō: Futatabime no Tensei, S-Rank Cheat Majutsu-shi Bōkenroku in 2019. Square Enix’s Manga UP! serializes the manga and provides English translations.

Picture a scenario where someone dies, reincarnates, and dies again. That’s Ephtal’s journey. Once a modern Japanese individual, he died and was reborn in a magical world. His magic skills were poor, leading to his death. However, the gods favored him, granting another reincarnation 400 years later. This time, magic’s quality had declined, making his average abilities stand out.
