The film The Dangers in My Heart: The Movie will debut in North American cinemas in the coming days, and we experienced it through an early screening. The story begins with Kyotaro reflecting on the upcoming performance by Primary COLOR, featuring Kana as she prepares for it. Manga fans will recognize it as an adaptation of Chapter 114 “We’re Going Out” and Chapter 127 “We’re Moving Forward,” though it isn’t a complete version. Instead, segments from these chapters are woven into the film.

Following Kyotaro’s brief memory of his current circumstances and his role in crafting lyrics for a song titled “To Be Continued,” the movie shifts to a summary of the two TV seasons. It balances time between Season 1 and Season 2, then reconnects with the new material linked to the band’s performance, concluding emotionally.

The recap is executed smoothly. Rather than feeling hurried or disjointed, key moments are arranged to show how Kyotaro and Anna’s relationship evolved gradually. The gentle and sincere tone remains consistent, a hallmark of the series. Even though these scenes are familiar, seeing them together emphasizes how meticulously the narrative was crafted, from their initial meeting to their confessions. If you want to fully appreciate the song in the film, revisiting those specific moments is recommended.

The opening and closing segments offer fresh content. Without delving into specifics (and there isn’t much to discuss), this section provides a rewarding payoff that feels justified rather than forced. It retains the series’ signature awkwardness and ends on a fulfilling note. Revisiting the entire relationship arc enhances this satisfaction.

A teaser for a potential BokuYaba sequel appears early in the film. Within the first few minutes, as Kyotaro recounts events, he mentions “a lot more happened” but says “we’ll save that for later.” This includes glimpses of events between Chapter 114 and 127, suggesting possible future content. These brief flashes are fleeting, so viewers should pay close attention (including a favorite character with a different hairstyle!).

No official announcement about this project has been made at the time of writing.

Overall, the film suits fans who have watched both seasons. New viewers can grasp the story through the recap, but the emotional depth is stronger for those familiar with the characters. HIDIVE will release the movie in North America on February 16 (subbed) and February 18 (English dub). If attending, check the list of theaters for your area.

The anime is based on the manga by Norio Sakurai, widely praised as “peak romance.” It currently has 13 volumes and over 6.5 million copies in circulation. It’s set to conclude with the next volume.
